What do I need to bring?
Please bring along your confirmation to check-in either printed or on your phone – we will need to see your booking reference number. Mobile phone signal coverage can be spotty in Chester, but we have WiFi you can use!
What is your address?
We are based in St Michaels Church, Bridge Street, Chester CH1 1NW.
Will there be a tour guide?
Sick to Death is a self-guided museum tour.
How long will it take?
It takes most people around 45 minutes – 1 hour to go through the museum.
How accessible are you?
Our venue is sadly not fully accessible for all wheelchair users, due to its raised location on Chester’s Medieval Rows. It does not have level street access. We have compiled some information we hope you find useful in deciding whether to come, which you can read on our Accessibility Page
- The front door is accessed via five steps from Bridge Street, and six steps with a central handrail from Pepper Street.
- There are three steps with a handrail to an alterative door the rear of the venue.
- Once inside, the museum is all on one-level and fully wheelchair accessible.

Do you offer changing facilities?
We do offer changing facilities.
What is the Mature Content area?
There are some displays that deal with more mature topics, such as sexual health and while these are open to everyone, we have set them apart in a separate section, signed ‘Mature Content’ and divided by a gate, so that you may choose whether to enter.
Do I need to buy a ticket in advance?
No. You can buy tickets in advance or you may purchase them on arrival.
Is Sick to Death suitable for children?
Yes! We are designed for learning in a fun and interactive way. Some areas are designed to be gory, but we find most children enjoy the atmosphere and we have tried to make it funny and interesting rather than be too scary. Parental discretion is advised.
If anyone is truly too nervous to enter (the first section can seem a bit dark and spooky for some) you may choose to enter the exhibits from the ‘end’, which is brighter and more open, and then work your way ‘backwards’ through the displays. With this option, many nervous visitors soon warm up to the idea of what Sick to Death is all about and thoroughly enjoy their visit!
Will things jump out at me?
Sick to Death is not a scare attraction and there is nothing that will jump out and surprise any of our visitors, however some areas will be dimly lit and will incorporate sound effects.
Are there flashing lights?
The first room you enter after the front desk includes flashing lights as part of the introduction, however you may pass through this room without viewing it.
I don’t speak English, will it be suitable for me?
All content of the museum’s written is in English, however there are many sights, sounds, smells and hands-on activities for those who are not proficient in English – or prefer not to read a lot of text.
Can children come on their own?
No. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, 18 years and above.
What is the last time I can arrive?
Please note last entry is 5pm.
